The powerful foundation of Native American and Spanish architecture guided the creation of communities in Phoenix. In 1880, leaders and developers began to build a variety of architectural styles. This area thrived economically while many parts of the country were struggling. Homes with grand architecture were built to distinguish Phoenix from the cowboy “West” and attract affluent residents. The results are astounding, with a wide range of architectural styles inspired from cultures around the world.
